Anyone who’s creative and likes to make things will recognize the parental understanding that you always have a favorite but you don’t always want to say so. You still love your others! Just…. not quiiiiiiite as much as you love the favorite.

Since last year, my favorite has been a gorgeous green bowl that I gave my sister for Christmas last year. I figured if I was going to give it to ANYone, it would be her so I could visit her often and know she was still in the family.

But now a new sibling has been born and I can’t let her go. She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever made and not only can’t I sell her, I can’t bear to gift her either. She’s the New Favorite and she’s staying miiiiiiiiiiiiine.

It’s all about that gorgeous celadon but it’s also because she was fired in the gas reduction kiln at the studio. I absolutely have a preference for the interesting colors that come about because of the oxygen reduction that happens in gas/wood/salt/etc kilns but have had bad luck with our studio’s gas firings…. until now.

This one came out beautifully, as well as another bowl, which I have up for sale in my etsy shop. (EDIT: Sold) More pictures below and I’ll definitely be doing more of these when the gas kiln fires again next year. Until then, Happy Holidays!!!
